Brewer - Linda S. Hayes, 67, died after a brief illness May 12, 2023, at a Scarborough health care facility. She was born January 11, 1956, at Valley Forge Hospital, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of George H. and Dorothy D. (Dustman) Hayes.
Linda graduated from Brewer High School, class of 1974. She was elected by her class as the first female Class Marshall. Following graduating, Linda attended Husson College, receiving an associate degree. Following graduation, she lived in Denver, Colorado, and South Portland, Maine. She returned to Brewer in 1990, when she joined the sales staff at the Bangor Daily News. Linda developed personal and professional relationships that were very important to her throughout her time at BDN.
Linda was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend. She loved softball, golf and trying new recipes. Nothing was more fun than watching Linda dig into clam chowder, mussels and lobster at her favorite spot in Bar Harbor. She loved it!
Linda was predeceased by her brother, Mark S. Hayes. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Steve Lufkin, of Middleton, Massachusetts; nephews, Matthew Lufkin and his wife, Jamie; and their daughters, Elizabeth and Gabrielle Lufkin, of Georgetown, Massachusetts; and Andrew Lufkin, and his family of Tejaris, New Mexico; and niece, Jaclyn Lufkin, of Lynnfield, Massachusetts.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer, Maine. Interment will be private.
