ORRINGTON - ORRINGTON - Terry Lee Ring, 56, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and teacher, died unexpectedly at home on Feb. 11, 2012. Terry, the daughter of Robert A. Bissell and Rosella Mae (Torrey) Frey, was born Dec. 22, 1955. Terry would have celebrated 34 years of marriage on Feb. 24 with her husband, Lawrence E. Ring III, with whom she built a beautiful home and life. She was the proud mother of three daughters, Judy (Ring) Long, Heather Ring and Angela Ring, who all considered their mother their best friend. She was a member of Brewer High School Class of 1974 and a lifelong learner through the University of Maine System. Terry served as elementary school librarian for the Orrington school system for 23 years, where she influenced countless children and helped them learn to read. She was universally beloved by the students, with whom she shared humor, spirit, stories, a love of life and a love of reading. She cherished her work with the boys and girls book clubs at Center Drive School, the annual book fairs and Community Reading Day, and also had worked at the Orrington Public Library, where she was a regular and welcome patron. Many people called Terry a friend, drawn by that humor and spirit as well as her intelligence and great capacity for caring. Known for her love of all literature, from children's books to popular fiction to the finer works, Terry also had impeccable taste in antiques and home decor. Her knowledge of antiques and the way she cherished treasures of the past was no more evident than in her beautiful saltbox home on Long Hill, which was a great source of pride, joy and comfort to her. Terry loved to work in her yard, building rock walls, tending flower beds and ornamental bushes and trees, feeding the birds and helping Larry clear brush and leaves. She spent many hours by her pool in the summer with friends and family. She greeted the hummingbirds into her yard every spring and the deer in her back yard every winter. She also loved music and theater, and over the last few years particularly enjoyed attending performances with her sister-in-law, Terry A. Ring, and concerts with special friend Glenys Gray. Terry is survived by her husband, Lawrence; daughter, Judy and her husband, Jason Long; daughter, Heather and her fiancé, Nick Cassidy; daughter, Angela and her boyfriend, Jon Nelson; mother, Rosella and her husband, Gus Frey; brother, Robert Bissell and his wife, Theresa; brother, Charles W. "Billy" Bissell and his wife, Lynn; sister, Judy (Bissell) Giroux; sister-in-law, Terry A. Ring; nieces, Kristen Giroux, Kira Giroux and Alicia Bissell; and nephews, Patrick Cole, Matthew Bissell, William Bissell, Jeremy Bissell and Anthony Bissell. She was predeceased by her father, Robert A. Bissell; a brother, Barry Bissell; mother-in-law, Ruth Ring; father-in-law, Lawrence E. "Jenk" Ring Jr.; and brother-in-law, Michael L. Ring. She also will be greatly missed by her three beloved Jack Russell terriers, Oscar, Ruby and Luther. A memorial service for Terry will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at East Orrington Congregational Church, Johnson Mill Road.
